  1. Hi Sara, I’ve been experimenting with smoothies for weeks. First, I was using only fruits but quickly realized that it’s too sweet for my mom who’s a diabetic. Now, I am trying vegetable-based smoothie and since one of the ingredient is bitter melon, I am finding it challenging to mask that taste without any fruits.

Which less-sugary fruits do you have in mind to help me out here? Thanks.

    1. Yes, if your mom is diabetic you definitely have to be careful with the type of fruits you use. Personally, I like my smoothies to be tasty but not too sweet. So you can use low sugar fruits like watermelon, strawberry, grapefruit, raspberry, cantaloupes, starfruit, lime/lemon and kiwi. All fruits have sugar, so these that I have listed has the least amount of sugar when compared to other fruits. Remember also to take into consideration the serving size. Please do check out the recipes for 6 best tasting vegetable smoothies, which I’ve listed here on this website.

  2. Hi Sara,
thanks once again for a good article and good info.I always compared smoothies to sluchies and I was unaware of all the benefits they have for you.

thanks for the tip on the fruit flavor ones and the does and don’t s about them because I think I’d have to get used to the veggies:-)

By the way, which is your favorite?

    1. Well, I love to use fruits in my smoothies to hide the somewhat bitter taste that most veggies has. I love so many smoothies Frederick. But mostly the ones with berries (berries hide the taste of veggies well) :). I also love my smoothies with ice, so much smoother and tastier to me. I has listed some easy smoothie recipes you can also try Frederick. View and try them and give me your feedback.

  3. Hi Sara, thanks for the tips.
I know some people who don’t eat fruits and vegetables at all. But they say they want to lose weight. So turning fruits and vegetables into drinkable smoothies should make losing weight easier and they’re doing it the healthy way too.

I wanted to experiment by combining my favorite fruits and vegetables but I am not sure how they would turn out. I wouldn’t want to make something that I won’t be able to drink. For fruits, i really like bananas, pineapples, mangoes and cantaloupe while broccoli, lettuce, kale, and cabbage are among my favorite vegetables. I like cucumbers too.

Which do think among these will make a great smoothie?

    1. All the fruits and vegetables you mentioned would go great with each other.
All the fruits would go well with the kale and broccoli. Based on my taste, the cabbage and lettuce would go well with the pineapple and mango. I personally love to add berries in my smoothies. So delicious!

I have experimented a lot with smoothies. If you are going to try your own recipe, just start off with enough ingredients to make you a cup. So the next time you try, you’ll be able to know how much ingredient to use and what taste better with what.
